The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), is offering 30 graduate scholarship opportunities for eligible students seeking admission for the 2027โ2028 academic year.
The scholarship is designed for students pursuing selected technology, innovation, engineering, and sustainability-focused master’s degree programmes at ASU’s Tempe campus in Arizona, USA.
Successful scholars will receive comprehensive financial and developmental support throughout the two-year, full-time, in-person graduate programme.
Scholarship Overview
The 2027 Innovation and Technology Scholarship provides eligible African students with an opportunity to pursue selected master’s degree programmes at Arizona State University.
In addition to financial assistance, scholars will participate in leadership development, mentorship, community engagement, professional development, and other enrichment activities designed to help them contribute to positive social and economic development in their communities.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all the stated eligibility conditions to be considered for the scholarship.
–Academic Requirements
Applicants must:
1. Have earned a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution by August 2027.
2. Have a strong academic record equivalent to at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
3. Meet Arizona State University’s English language proficiency requirements for graduate admission.
4. Higher education diplomas, certificates, and other non-degree qualifications are not considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree for this scholarship.
-Other Eligibility Conditions
Applicants must also:
1. Be citizens of an African country.
2. Be between 18 and 33 years old on or before September 27, 2026.
3. Demonstrate leadership and community service experience.
4. Show a commitment to creating positive change in their communities.
5. Have never previously enrolled in or completed a graduate or master’s degree programme.
6. Not be enrolled in or begin another graduate or master’s degree programme while applying for the scholarship.
7. Be willing and able to relocate to and live on Arizona State University’s campus in Tempe, Arizona, for the duration of the programme.
Scholarship Benefits
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program will provide comprehensive support to selected scholars.
The scholarship covers:
1. Visa application processing costs
2. English language proficiency test voucher, where required
3. ASU graduate application fee waiver
4. Airfare to and from Phoenix, Arizona
5. Full tuition
6. Required books and student fees
7. Medical support
8. On-campus accommodation
9. Leadership and signature programming
10. Scholars will also receive support through mentorship, professional development, community engagement, and other programme activities.

6. Do not apply separately for admission to Arizona State University or a graduate programme unless instructed to do so by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Team.
7. Applicants who progress to the next stage may be invited for an interview and will receive guidance on the ASU admission process.
8. Candidates invited to apply for ASU admission will receive an application fee waiver and should not pay an application fee.
9. The scholarship application becomes final once submitted, so applicants should carefully check all information before completing their submission.
Important Note
Admission to an academic programme at Arizona State University does not automatically guarantee the award of the Mastercard Foundation scholarship.
